I know some weird shit is going down at City Hall in Santa Barbara- resignations, accusations of sexual harassment, leadership vacuum, pot wars,  and a dysfunctional city council..ooh I bet Wendy is giddy right about now

but when I saw the plans they have for a playground at Dwight Murphy Field, I wondered WTF is really going on at the City...Parks and Rec chick Jill must be high on mushrooms or weed to even consider this trippy eyesore as befitting the City of Santa Barbara...

they want to rip out the grass and install astroturf!! why let kids feel and smell real dirt and  grass when they can get rug burns on fake grass...

the project may be well-intended but it is ill-conceived

I Saw the Light

Praise the Lord, I saw the light

I see some people hiking down the street carrying backpacks and walking sticks..then a bunch more behind them, then a crowd of folks walking...some sort of religious trek honoring Saint Junipero Serra's walk along El Camino Real...a beautiful route from the SB Mission to Ventura that CALTRANS is in the process of destroying...and the cancel culture wants to kill the Saint's statues!!

a couple of guys were reciting prayers through loudspeakers..a couple of girls in cute tank top outfits...they're going to camp at St Joseph's church in Carp and sing songs around the camp fire...and vespers, too....pretty cool!

as I said, CALTRANS is in the process of destroying El Camino Real, The Royal Road or King's Highway,  with the concrete plant by Padaro Lane and all these hideous sound walls on Via Real..what color are these? monkey-puke brown?? they block the views and flow of wind from the ocean..these walls are bad news..I feel like I'm being entombed!

a few years back, Caltrans wanted to gauge the desire for sound walls in Carp...they sent ballots to folks immediately affected by the highway expansion...CALTRANS didn't get enough 'yes' votes by the deadline so they extended the voting period...they really wanted to build the sound walls!! now that's real voter fraud!!

I will explore this travesty in future posts, but remember...

and the fireworks show will happen in Santa Barbara like old times but then I get this message from Senator Monique Limón telling me to be kind and not set off fireworks because it will unleash a plethora of ills on society's down-trodden....fireworks will touch off restless-leg syndrome??????

look, I've been watching fireworks since I was a kid at the Gloucester harbor waterfront to the Santa Barbara waterfront...Wendy comes along with her deification of dogs and all of a sudden they want to stop the all-American 4th of July festivities to save the dogs

one night a year for a few hours of fireworks is not gonna harm anybody...there are no personality disorders associated with fireworks...this is all nonsense

now, do the Republicans have the sense to make adult decisions that matter to us? no

but if Monique keeps putting out these missives I'll vote for someone else

Santa Claus Lane is a good place to watch the fireworks but there's a new road sign there: BONFIRES AND BBQS PROHIBITED ON THE BEACH

ok, but what about a little fire and a cookout? those don't fit the definition of bonfires and bbqs, do they? no

so this 4th of July, party your hearts out, have fun at the beach, chase some grunion

and save a hot dog for me
