Buddha and the Chocolate Factory

as sanctions pile up, California State Bar may take closer look at erratic court behavior of Darryl Genis, DUI lawyer and defender...

I was sitting there staring at the Buddha statue when I heard a little bell go off in my head...actually it was the Westminster chimes from my old clock I got from a Thrift store..it's way too cool...
but after my minute of spiritual connectiveness, I came back to reality and concluded that some folks must be possessed by demons..Wendy of course and I think DUI lawyer Darryl Genis...THE POWER OF CHRIST COMPELS YOU!! THE POWER OF CHRIST COMPELS YOU!!

but really, when Noozhawk and the News-Press came out in support of drunk driving, I was mortified! now I know that the publishers of these media have had personal drug issues, but to blame the cops for doing their jobs, jobs which Noozhawk and the News-Press know nothing about, then I knew something was amiss....and that something is lack of professionalism...when you have a job, you get paid to carry out your duties..a news organization should not be smearing local gov't employees because they don't happen to like the gov't or unions..gov't watchdogs are fine and necessary, but what if the watchdogs are full of fleas? well, that's where the rest of us come in...we need to count the fleas..

ok...so today we got some fleas to deal with...actually this poor boy Darryl Genis is covered in fleas...I could call him Lord of the Fleas! now, during the Lance DUI hearing, I watched Lance and Darryl  disrupt the courtroom, throw temper tantrums, watched Lance get escorted from the courtroom and other displays of ids gone wild....I've been a critic of Genis and many others before me have too...but defending drunk drivers just seems like such a low calling....and the courtroom antics are just plain silly...

I witnessed Darryl's creepiness firsthand so I'm not surprised that sanctions are finally coming his way ...and the California State Bar may start to take notice as well....

of course Darryl G has got allies in the News-Press with Scott Steepleton as his personal reporter....but here's something I don't think the News-Press or Noozhawk will report: it seems that the court in SLO is not amused at Darryl's unlawyerly conduct...the outbursts, the tantrums, the name-calling that Darryl uses to advocate for his DUI clients is more a behavioral problem than a defense strategy...maybe Darryl eats too many sugary chocolate bars??

here's some of what the court in SLO had to say recently about Darryl's behavior during a recent DUI trial where his client pleaded non contest to DUI....court: "it's not an overstatement to categorize Appellant's oral argument as a parade of insults and affronts..throughout, the trial judge was castigated, disparaged and even the subject of a veiled threat"..

a veiled threat?? really? howz about a more generous sanction.. like say $5000!!

Scott and Darryl share a tender moment
but in order for Darryl to have a chance defending drunk drivers, he needs to show how corrupt the DA is, the judges are and the cops are for arresting his clients in the first place!! this is an absurd tactic as we are seeing in the higher profile cases like Lance and Denunzio....as the backgrounds and motives of the arrested guys are discovered, we see chronic cases of domestic violence, alcohol abuse and other destructive behaviors...

as long as the enablers like the News-Press keep helping Genis and Lance and DeNunzio, they will keep doing it...until the courts get serious with hack lawyers and drunk drivers...

lonely are the brave

AMBER ALERT!!!!

I was reading the Life Section of the News-Press on Sunday and they had an inteview with Kirk Douglas...great actor!!

but I know how wacky the Douglas family is...first off, Micheal is friends with Wendy, the weird stuff that happened in the desert, the drugs, addictions, slackers and killings which the News-Press never talks about....I'm not sure Kirk knows what a bunch of losers his sons are!!

and now this...I read the story which was pretty benign, but the pictures told another tale....I was aghast when I saw images of Kirk Douglas in obvious distress..instead of an engaged passionate actor, I saw a frightened old man fighting for his life...I don't know what the News-Press staff writer Marilyn McMahon was doing...what was she saying to him? was she goading him? did she hurt his dogs?? look at Kirk..the fist and wild look in his eyes like he was gonna throw a punch at Marilyn...and there..he's grasping his head as if someone struck him..maybe the camera man, Thomas Kelsey smacked him in the forehead with a telephoto lens! did they hurt his dogs??

I think this may be a case of elder abuse committed by the News-Press and I hope the authorities look into it....poor guy looks really upset!! has anyone seen him after the interview??

home on the range

where seldom is heard, a discouraging word, and the skies are not cloudy all day

well, of course I went to the rodeo... I find it very relaxing watching cowpokes torture animals...even in the rain..the sweet summer rain...as I left for Earl Warren Showgrounds, it was raining in Carp..the skies were cloudy for a while, but not all day....I drove through Montecito and then it was sunny in Santa Barbara...very nice and tropical...

I didn't see any protestors offering discouraging words about the rodeo, just horses and cowgirls and cowboys and some folks from Germany...nice young family...the daughters were pretty, too...the mom kept stopping in front of me..kinda posing ..and ..well...very pretty and nice and ...hmmmm

and the cowgirls..tough and lovely as a day in the country..and pensive..always thinking about something...their horse?? them girls chap my britches!

good ol' Earl Warren Showgrounds....what a treasure....I saw the ghosts of the Doors, Janis Joplin, Grace Slick and the Airplane, the Animals, Alice Cooper, Roy Rogers & others hanging out at the entrance...and I thought to myself...this big ballroom is empty...why don't they use it for a Sunday night square dance as a Fiesta finale?? hell, I'd put my cowboy boots on for that... let's go honky tonkin'!

but into the Kramer Arena I go and there they are~ the rodeo folks~ so I go sit down in the bleachers..I enjoy this so much I don't know why...it's just so simple...I won few blue ribbons at camp for horseback riding when I was a kid, so maybe that's it...my horse was named Babette..she was my friend and I was so happy to see her each morning...she'd come over to greet me...I'd saddle her up and she'd giggle and we'd ride for an hour or so..and practice..she was a horse of course but I loved her....I still think about her...

so I'm watching the festivities and finally see some cowgirls..there's that blonde I saw last year..man oh man is she fine...I gotta do something about that...Sunday, I turn on the charm and see if I can trick her into a BBQ or two...

but there's other cowgals too and a kid about 10 years old doing a fantastic job roping the calves...I didn't see any barbarism or cruelty...just some roping and hootin and hollerin...the animals were all healthy looking and I think the animal rights people are as cuckoo as Wendy McCuckoo....I'll never understand why Jedlicka's advertises in the News-Press when Wendy doesn't support the Fiesta rodeo....

whatever...all I know is today and Sunday I am a cool cowboy in the stands with my eye on some awesome riders...and everyone is having fun....and that's all that really matters...ain't nothin like a good rodeo!

the singer not the song

we are going, to the Hukilau..

for some reason, I've always been afraid of sewing machines..you know the ones..the Singer sewing machines..whenever I go to a Thrift Shop I see an old one...usually it's in some weird sometime ornate case, or self-contained in a neat little desk with a hatch... when the hatch is closed, it looks like a functional piece of old timey furniture, but when you open it up, there it is.. a sewing machine! who sews?? I don't....if my clothes become unraveled, I just tear them up and make shop towels out of them...I certainly don't sew them back together....maybe they remind me of odd old ladies with Wendy frowns or young alien girls sewing sweatshop clothes for crazy Christian billionaire Kathy Ireland...

but while the little menacing machines may disturb me, I've always liked the Singer name...so I was happy when I saw an old Singer phonograph online and bought it for cheap...I didn't know Singer made these little portable record players..it came with original box and four old Eveready batteries, dead and corroded, but they had the cool Black Cat logo...

so I took the machine out of its original box and it looked like a little sewing machine, but I wasn't scared..I was delighted..I got some new batteries and put on some old 45s and played some tunes...Polly Bergen is fantastic!! and I found a record I never knew I had...Hukilau...we throw our nets out into the sea, and all the uma uma come swimming to me...

the image is moving because I was doing the island dance while holding the camera... and ya know what? I'm not afraid anymore....

Sweethearts of the Rodeo

well I'll be roped and tied...

the News-Press proved me wrong and printed a story on the front page about former editor Jerry Roberts trying to seize Wendy's ASSets for non-payment of fines...Steepleton wrote the blurb and chastised all the local "tabloids" for beating him to the punch! a poke at the Independent.. hahah...good one Scott!

and me?? I ain't no tabloid, I'm a serious journalist...a mild-mannered reporter...I work for the Daily Planet and I fight for truth, justice and the American way...I am the total opposite of big fat Scott (Bizarro) and the News-Press...and normally silent union buster/and Wendy's (Darkseid) number one suck up Don Katich (Lex Luthor)..Don seems to be a Southerm Baptist/FOX News wannabe reporter, as he tells us in an interview with Scott that Wendy (Darkseid) is being persecuted, like Chick fil A, for running her business the way she wants yet the leftie commies keep hounding her....luckily Wendy's got Nipper (General Zog) to console her!

Katich is mighty confused though when he claims the free market will dictate whether the News-Press survives..no Don ..California's community property laws gave Wendy tons on cash from her ex..that's not the free market, that's robbery and one of the pitfalls of traditional marriage!! the News-Press has become rather defensive lately! I think they anticipate losing again! it's ok when Wendy sues everybody, but when she gets sued it's a conspiracy!

the Ghosts of Rancho Monte Alegre..
so Arnold and Maria have their ranch house and 25 acres for sale..if I had the money I'd buy it in a heartbeat...the ranch is rustic and beautiful! what I don't unnerstand is Maria thinks the place has a bad vibe! well, I did live there for two years so maybe that's it..and the previous owners were a bit eccentric..the thing about RMA is things can be heavenly for a while and then it's like the ghosts come out and mess with you..so maybe she's right...maybe the ghost of Olive Carrey is chasing everyone away...or maybe Ollie wants me to come back! who wouldn't want to live in a place where Olive Carey gave cocktail parties with Harry Carey Jr, John Wayne and Robert Mitchum hanging out? the owners when I lived there told me stories about the old days...but I soon learned some of them were nuts...a lady named Maxi used to invite me to her house parties and complain about my shirts! the old gal Sebring would tell me to ignore Maxi..and the Segall lady with her hair pulled back straight and tight would race around in her Suzuki Samuri, threaten to evict me and bang on my door at night screaming Ollie Carey's name! haha..I had some fun there...Wendy please help me..I'll sell you this blog name for $7 million and buy Arnold and Maria's ranch and you'll never hear from me again..I promise!! I miss the ghosts up there and maybe Maria I can help you turn a bad memory into a beautiful one!

viva la Fiesta
ok so it's time for Fiesta....I think it's great and intend on going to the rodeo over the weekend and no one, no animal rights activist can persuade me that the rodeo is a bad thing....oh, I know they'll try..they'll stand out in the street in front of historic Earl Warren Showgrounds dressed in tight little mini skirts and cowgirl hats and boots...looking all cute and sexy..well maybe they could convince me not to go to the rodeo if I could ride one of them gals instead!!

but really I'm all for animal rights...animals have the right to taste good when I'm eatin em!

Southern Man

better keep your head....

WTF is up with Southern Baptists? if I had to isolate the weirdest bunch of Americans, they be them...and yesterday, they had a Chick-fil-A appreciation day where they all flocked to the restaurants in the bible belt and ate chicken sandwiches..some of the folks went three times a day to show support for the CEO Dan Cathy, who is anti gay marriage..ie anti civil rights...

now I grew up in the 50s and 60s and watched white people try to piss on certain segments of the society...luckily, I liked black music even though it was sung by "jungle bunnies" according to the Southern Baptists....I couldn't possibly analyse these religious nuts in one post, so instead I'll make fun of them, these chicken fuckers...

now the Chick fil A event was promoted on FOX TV by former Arkansas gov and Southern Baptist Mike Huckabee who's been crying about the "vicious attacks on Chick-fil-A by the leftists"....ok Huckabee is a hick and was a bad governor and all these bozos always end up on FOX NEWS..the most corrupt business in America owned by the most corrupt man in the world, Rupet Murdoch...and Huckabee gladly receives a paycheck from Ruppie!

ok so these folks eat chicken to support traditional marriage..their biblical rendition...between a man and a woman....that's fine..whatever..if people want to get married that's nice....and divorce won't be far behind..unless you are religious then you stay married even if you hate your partner, or he has sex with the daughter... the bible says he's just a sinner who can be saved!

don't forget what your good book says
that's the Southern Baptist logic...that's the Jerry Falwell doctrine...but being a Southern Baptist is not exactly a badge of honor..they are steeped in a past full of racism and violence: The paltry number of people of color in the SBC is rooted in its once upon a time unabashedly racist history. Notoriously known to have filled the ranks of the Ku Klux Klan, Southern Baptists have been vociferous defenders of anti-miscegenation laws, Jim Crows edicts, lynching mob justice, to name a few. The Southern Baptist Convention was founded in 1845 in defense of slavery.

it seems when these people run out of one group to hate, they find another..and Mike Huckabee claimed the left was vicious for attacking a bigot like Dan Cathy..but Mike's full of shit and he knows it, and preaching to the choir is the easy way out...

Huckabee is a failed presidential candidate from some years ago but quit when it was discovered he like cop killers

It was damage control worthy of a presidential campaign. On Sunday morning, former Gov. Mike Huckabee (R-Ark.) told the audience of “Fox News Sunday” that he was “nowhere near ready” for a 2012 presidential run. Hours later, the Seattle Times reported that Maurice Clemmons, a suspect in the killing of four police officers in Washington state, had been granted clemency by then-Gov. Huckabee back in 2000. Shortly before midnight, Huckabee released a statement on the killings through his political PAC. On Monday morning, he took to Fox News Radio for yet another take on the killings in Washington.

Huckabee’s multiple answers and explanations for his clemency decision have not quelled a riot of anger against him rising up from blogs, talk radio, and some Republican strategists who’ve worked against him in the past. For 24 hours, conservatives debated Huckabee’s role in the Washington tragedy. Opponents of the governor-turned-TV-host piled on, offering it up as proof that he could never lead the party. Even some former campaign aides suggested that the Clemmons clemency, in the context of many similar decisions Huckabee made during his 12-year stint in the governor’s office, had seriously damaged his hope of grabbing the Republican presidential nomination.

now your crosses are burning fast....

I ain't got no home

I ain't got no home, I'm just a-roamin' 'round,
Just a wandrin' worker, I go from town to town.
And the police make it hard wherever I may go
And I ain't got no home in this world anymore.

putting a fence around the Cabrillo ball field is a pretty stupid way to deal with the homeless...isn't it Sharon, Frank et al?

many people have beeen squawking about the homeless lately and Casa Esperanza, the place off Milpas St that takes them in and gives them soup...

SB city councilman Frank Hotchkiss wrote a piece in the News-Press about how to help solve the "problem"..right below Frank's piece was an opinion about the conditional use permit of Casa Esperanza..make no mistake, these people want the homeless gone..period.

of course Frank won't solve the homeless problem until he understands it..first he puts the homeless folks into certain categories and then gives us a profile on them but he forgot to mention homeless vets...guys who went to war, killed some people for Uncle Sam for no reason and then returned severely messed up...did you vote for the invasion of Iraq but never served yourself..then you can accept some blame for the ghostly homeless vet walking by that scares you....

the mentally unstable homeless are especially frightening to Frank: "those you see berating the world around them in a loud voice for affronts real or imagined...they are aggressive and vocal and loudly insult any and all who happen to cross their path"....

gee Frank did you see Peter Lance at his DUI hearing where he loudly berated the judge and insulted the cops who arrested him? the point being the homeless are no different than anyone else..they just live their lives more publicly which upsets some people....now any real crimes by this group of people is handled by the cops, but being poor or mentally ill is not a crime..drunk driving is a crime and drunk drivers scare me...homeless folks do not

most should be in structured safe settings staffed by people who have worked with this population...people who went to school to get degrees to deal with psychological problems of the mentally ill...and the churches should step it up..the big beautiful Trinity Episcopal church in SB on State St tried to help the ragged people but citizens complained there were too many homeless sitting outside on the church grounds...the sight of poor folks is an affront to some of the well- heeled cocktail set in Santa Barbara!

some boneheads have suggested that the more homeless people there are, the more work for the folks who are the caregivers....as ignorant a comment as I've ever heard....the fact is many mentally ill folks are on the streets and they shouldn't be...many have schizophrenia....every minute is struggle for them, can you imagine what it must be like in the streets?? community services must be fully staffed and funded to deal with the situtation..fully staffed..I mean counselors, caregivers, half-way houses, out-patient services...of course, the run of the mill Santa Barbara middle class person doesn't understand that the dirty ragged homeless person sleeping on the beach once had a normal life before being disabled by a serious mental disorder...and these folks don't belong in jail!!

the citizens groups united to get rid of the homeless simply want them out of the way...they don't want to see a poor person  lounging at the beach..it upsets and frightens them and they want to shield their kids from such realities....to them, the homeless are bad for business....but I do believe they are over-reacting...besides most of the tourists don't really care if they see some homeless folks...poverty exists around the world..go to Venice, Italy and poor kids will swarm around you for something to give them...they will try to sell you stuff...we threw pennies out of our second story hotel room and they rushed to picked them up below..laughing excitedly....

the homeless are people who need care..they don't need  fear or judgement..they are not pests that need to be exterminated...it's best to let the pros deal with the situation and let the politicians/snobs/trustfunder boozers look for better ways to waste their time...

Santa Barbara is not defined by the homeless, but how it treats this small population...what next, are we to keep chubby blonde girls or white haired guys from walking on State St??

but there will always be homeless people..there always have been homeless people...call them what you will..beggars, tramps, bums, transients, hobos, Skid Row Joe...King of the Road....they always have been here, and they always will be....
