In 1978, when the U.S. Supreme Court issued its significant ruling re: indecency in broadcasting, I was working for a newspaper in the San Francisco Bay Area. My editor refused to run any form of the so-called "seven words you can never say on television." Readers of our newspaper had to go elsewhere to learn what the ruling was about.
