Rocking Around the Christmas Tree

have a happy holiday!!

it's Christmas Eve but not too early to wish you all a Merry Christmas!! if you can't accept that, ok, fine...

but are you gonna have a Merry Christmas or a Happy Christmas?  Synonyms for MERRY: jolly, festive, cheerful, happy...so you could potentially wish people a jolly Christmas, or a holly jolly Christmas and still be wishing them a Merry Christmas!

hey now, have a Festive Christmas!

Silver Blue and Gold

Oh, give me silver, blue and gold,

The colour of the sky I'm told,

My ray-ay-ain-bow is overdue

is that Merlin the Magician, or the new December moon?  Is it not magic to turn day into night, to stir the winds at sunset, and conjure western bluebirds to my tree?

this is akin to shapeshifting!

COMMUNIFY: anyone uses that term around me will be met with blunt force trauma...

I read this on Nextdoor Neighbor

Ennisbrook ∙ Yesterday at 10:19 AM

Hi neighbors.

Two days ago one of my dogs was attacked and taken by a pack of Coyotes that were walking along the entrance of Ennisbrook Trail. After searching for hours we thought we had lost him, but by some miracle we got a call from animal services that a neighbor had found him still alive. Thankfully he made it through his critical condition and was just released from the animal hospital. Many owners don’t get as lucky as we did, and I felt the need to warn everyone to please keep their pets safe ❤️

awww...now if your dog has some Mississippi leg hound in him, the coyotes may take him down and if you are walking in the hills, you are in coyote territory...and of course, dog people blame coyotes for everything, just as nativists blame eucalyptus trees for everything...so perhaps some karma is due..

I got no problem with pretty women walking their dogs in town or on the SCL path but remember: coyotes are smart, adaptive and independent...they are everything your dog should be, but will never be...

as long as that leash is around his neck...

River

It's coming on Christmas, they're cutting down trees

They're putting up reindeer and singing songs of joy and peace

Oh, I wish I had a river I could bake a cake on

But it don't snow here, it stays pretty green

I'm gonna make a lot of money, then I'm gonna quit this crazy scene

I wish I had a river I could bake away on

I wish I had a river so long

I would teach my hands to bake

Oh, I wish I had a river I could bake away on

I'd bake my baby a pumpkin pie...

Robin Hood-Prince of Thieves

“Rise and rise again until lambs become lions”

Prince Harry and the lovely Maid Meghan were at Kevin Costner's place on Padaro Ln a while ago...Kevin hosted a benefit for the firefighters and other First Responders, a noble cause.

A Fly-by shooting???

Ellen and Portia were there, Ellen and I go way back; Oprah was there...Oprah and I are tight, the Sheriff was there... all these folks are my extended neighbors and should be treated with all due respect and for God's sake, a modicum of privacy they would expect from laid-back California!

I was invited to the great event by a famous actress, but I declined...I had a previous engagement with a pretty Mexican girl...

Black Friday

when Black Friday comes, I'm gonna feed all the kangaroos

Happy Thanksgiving or Happy Genocide depending on your historical perspective...those who don't learn from history, are bound to repeat it, Kemosabi

ok then, with the demise of the News-Press and Newspress.com, there's no place for MAGA folks to go and complain about everything, until now...there's a new media/blog outlet in town called the SB Current. It's made up of some of the rejects from the News-Press, the Opinion columnists, the usual suspects...let's see, there be James Buckley, former owner of the Montecito Journal who ended up at the News-Press until the News-Press was no more... how humiliating is that??

https://www.sbcurrent.com/?fbclid=IwAR1Ddy3l6uZVYCzJE9A0p17EETRvTeioizEsd6c9Aw6hf5kOadnvMNjhqrU

and Andy Caldwell, parasite extraordinaire and phony preacher, always gushing about Wendy and sex-perv Milo Yiannopoulos and there's that MAGA chick Christy Lozano who still thinks Trump is president...geez, what a blabbermouth!

Andy Caldwell

not exactly earth-shattering and maybe a Noozhawk wannabe, conservative values and common sense is what they want to bring to the table, but I'll take a wait and see attitude, only because the Dems can go overboard if they are not monitored...

Now, I don't care what the Repubs think about abortion, Biden's age, Bidens impeachment or any other shit no one cares about.. I want the tax code/IRS, CALTRANS and the DMV reformed and some competent Republicans running for office, if there are any..

and the religious kooks need to stop crying about LGBTQ communities...they aren't going anywhere and let me remind these neo-Christians about anima/animus: the bible story in Genesis about Adam and Eve clearly says that Eve comes from Adam's rib, therefore Eve is a trans wo-man...

“This is now bone of my bones
    and flesh of my flesh;
she shall be called ‘woman,’
for she was taken out of man.”

whoa, that's heavy, but women over the years, at least since biblical times, have become quite lovely and less, how shall I say, manly...

hey, maybe Dr. Laura can weigh in!!

Statesboro Blues

I woke up this morning, I had them Statesboro Blues

I woke up this morning, had them Statesboro Blues

BREAKING NEWS

Elon Musk has designed a new electric fighter jet for the Hungarian army!!

Look out! Heads Up!!

The Channel Islands have been mismanaged by lunatics since the feds confiscated the ranches on Santa Cruz..."With authorization from Congress, the National Park Service seized control of Francis Gherini’s 6,300 acres of Santa Cruz Island in 1996, more than a decade after the island was designated part of the five-isle chain of parkland off the Ventura County Coast." Eventually, the former landowner was awarded 12 million dollars by the courts.

and the wonderful history of the islands: By 1864, tax records reported 24,371 sheep on Santa Cruz Island. The increase in sheep numbers probably was driven by demand for wool for Civil War uniforms and blankets. CIVIL WAR!!

and now we have news that two island plants have been restored and are off the endangered species list and the goal is to "restore all the islands back to the natural state for future generations"...all bullshit of course and a major scam by neo-nativists and on Catalina Island they want to kill all the mule deer off for causing erosion and being non-native...more helicopter firing squads....let's see, how many animals killed off to save native species?? THOUSANDS!!!!!!!!!!

meanwhile, in good old Santa Barbara...with the winter storms approaching, it's a stupid time to remove ice plant from East Beach!! a little "restoration" by the City of Santa Barbara...ice plant is a good soil conditioner, thrives in sandy areas and doesn't need a separate irrigation system to keep it alive...so leave it alone, Jill!

and it looks like the City of Santa Barbara has done a disservice to the citizens, vis-a-vis State Street...our beloved State Street..they had to hire an outsider to help them reconfigure State and the result is a mess...and it is not inclusive!!!

I was crossing State St once on a red light, a cop was going by so I stepped back on the sidewalk...meanwhile a chick on the other side of the street was watching and laughing at me...we started talking and next thing I knew we were crawling all over each other...lotsa good times on State Street

but the pictures and artist renderings today portend a ghastly scenario...how do you get emergency vehicles there with all the obstructions? I can't find the new haphazard striping in any DMV booklet!!

this is what happens when you have district elections!!

Celebrate

celebrate, celebrate, dance to the music

It was a ceremony to end all ceremonies...

After two years and 8 million dollars, the Santa Claus Lane Bike Path is finally open...it was supposed to be finished last year around the holidays, but delays mainly with the safety barrier and cable rail put it off schedule...

This half-mile stretch used to be a wildlife corridor with dirt and ice plant...foxes and birds among others used it to get to the marsh...but now it's tons of concrete and rebar for the dogs, bikes and joggers...

Normally, I don't like development by the marsh, but when I saw the ladies jogging in sexy clothes and biking with bikinis on, I changed my tune somewhat...

here's some pics ...Greta showed up to rabble-rouse...there's news-guy John Palmintieri, Carp councilman Al Clark, and the blonde chick with the camera...I hope to see her jogging on the bike path soon!

John P, Al Clark, and Blondie

I like a chick with a camera!

and a guy with a SLOW sign for the bike riders...odd

The press release with my comments...ha ha

CARPINTERIA, CALIFORNIA, NOVEMBER 8, 2022 – Today, community leaders and elected officials celebrated the completion of the Santa Claus Lane Bikeway at a ceremony with bicyclists, pedestrians, and local business owners, jugglers and clowns. And by the way, the year is 2023!

The new 0.6 mile, Class I bikeway and multipurpose path connects Santa Claus Lane to Carpinteria Avenue and is located on the beachside of Highway 101 between the freeway and the railroad tracks. Pedestrians and bicyclists can now walk and ride between the City of Carpinteria and Santa Claus Lane, a popular beach and local business area in the County of Santa Barbara. This also marks an improvement in the California Coastal Trail. Construction has been ongoing since September 2022. This is not a coastal trail, it's another cement road near the marsh...the ocean is on the other side of the marsh

“Connecting communities is one of the best ways we can ensure we are building infrastructure mindfully,” said State Senator Monique Limón. “I am proud that the state has invested $7.54 million of SB1 funding to make this project a reality, but that was made possible by the local match from Measure A.” Monique, have you lost your mind??

“SBCAG voted to use $3.33 million in Measure A funds for the Santa Claus Lane Bikeway. This multipurpose path is a joint effort by the Santa Barbara County Association of Governments, Caltrans, the County of Santa Barbara, and the City of Carpinteria. It has been wonderful to see everyone pull behind this project,” said SBCAG Chair Jenelle Osborne. Can we get rid of SBCAG??

“This bikeway will unite Carpinteria with Santa Claus Lane like never before. This project has been in the County’s long-term plans since 1977, and now it’s finally here. This bikeway will improve access to the beach and local businesses, and also provide a better regional connection for people who want to commute to work or recreate," said Board of Supervisors Chair and SBCAG Director Das Williams. Since 1977?? Only took them 46 years to build it! You're joshing Das...

“Caltrans is pleased to continue our close working relationship with SBCAG, the County, and the City of Carpinteria to oversee construction of this local improvement. A lot of hard work went into creating this connection between the freeway and the railroad tracks. This project is truly something to celebrate,” added California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) District 5 Director Scott Eades. Caltrans spent more time on the bikepath than on the highway!!

It's mostly white people who want these expensive bike paths everywhere...the whites...

it's the whites we need to watch!

Elusive Butterfly

Across my dreams, with nets of wonder

well, I'm glad they finally saw the folly of stringing metal nets across the beautiful back- country creeks...I've hiked up there behind Montecito thousands of times and never thought I'd see such an intrusion...it was a bad idea from the start, spurred on by a bunch of pompous do-gooder nanny non-profits without any plan to finance other than to lay their mistake on the taxpayers!

The nets were an emotional response to the rare Thomas fire/flood event in 2019...an afterthought. The nets were supposed to save lives, but ended up as little debris dams/obstructions that had a negative impact on wildlife...

the County of Santa Barbara did a good job of expanding the debris basins...a sound and logical decision...

and besides, it's not like people weren't warned...the County warned us, even the great ex-weatherman Alan Rose from KEYT warned us!

hey, why not erect some giant slingshots across the creeks, when the boulders tumble down in a storm, the slingshots just flick them back up into the hills!! watch out for the butterflies please...

San Ysidro Creek dam!!

The question ForestWatch and other organizations are raising is whether the ring nets have served their purpose. From what they can see, the debris net in upper San Ysidro Creek caught vegetation that trapped smaller rocks, not big boulders. “It’s a failure from that standpoint,” Pitterle said. “Normally, a project like this wouldn’t see the light of day. You don’t put barricades in creeks, especially in remote areas where you can’t control them.”

excellent story from the Independent:

https://www.independent.com/2023/10/05/dam-formed-by-debris-net-on-san-ysidro-creek-above-montecito-to-be-cleared/

a letter from the Project for Resilient Communities was sent to local media:

Op-Ed: The Ring Nets in Montecito Canyons Are Coming Down by Pat McElroy, Brett Matthews, Joe Cole, Elisabeth Fowler, Damon Taugher, Alixe Mattingly, and Hillary Hauser with the Project for Resilient Communities

It is with great disappointment to inform you that when the five-year emergency permits expire, the Project for Resilient Communities will need to remove the six debris flow “Swiss nets” in the canyons above Montecito by December 1.

yah sure, blame the Swiss!

Without strong local government support and budget for the six nets that may have to be cleaned out, without a guarantee that FEMA would cover those future costs, our small nonprofit cannot carry the risk associated with running a portion of a flood control system.

can't burden the taxpayers with this nonsense

Our goal from the beginning of this public-private partnership was to create the most cutting-edge and innovative system possible to enhance our community’s resiliency, funded entirely by private contributions, and then to efficiently transfer these important community assets to local, state, and regional authorities as part of the County’s safety and public works system to help ensure the protection of our community. The extension of the permits and the county accepting the debris flow protection system of six nets as part of the system was always paramount.

cutting-edge! haha good one

The nets initiative could not have happened without a supportive and resilient community and brilliant people coming together. From conception to installation to a proven mitigation solution, the debris basin nets were a worthy initiative and the mission was accomplished.

"brilliant people" ah, no

To now remove the nets is a most difficult decision, reached only after many months of good faith effort and discussion, but we have been unable to reach an agreement with the County, and we cannot continue to rely on private donations from the community to sustain this work.

Thank You Santa Barbara County for a job well done!!

Hummingbird

don't fly away, fly away

most non-profits are scams, easy money, please send donations

but this is the dumbest thing I've ever heard...apparently some people at the AOS are offended by Anna's Hummingbird among others...they want names that are more "inclusive" and less harmful which is taking this pc notion to an absurd level...

Anna's Hummingbird was named for Princess Anna de Belle Massena. John James Audubon himself was charmed by her, but it was her pal, naturalist René Primevère Lesson who named the bird in her honor.

Starting in 2024, the non-profit American Ornithological Society will be looking into changing the names of up to 80 bird species in the United States and Canada "in an effort to address past wrongs."

I fear for the Cooper's Hawk, the Savannah Sparrow, Lincoln's Sparrow and all the rest...

I've never known anyone traumatized by watching a bird, they are spirit animals in many cultures, and definite connections to the past!

and Anna's Hummingbird will always be Anna to me...

Ring of Fire

I fell into a burning ring of fire

I went down, down, down

And the flames went higher

And it burns, burns, burns

The ring of fire, the ring of fire

A solar eclipse casts no aspersions, but it does cast long shadows...

a double exposure to get a better view of the ring as the moon moves between the sun and earth...

in the ring of fire

Harvest

drink up drink up

let me fill your cup

It's October and that means Harvest season...the shadows of the moon...the air is full of fragrances-cinnamon, pumpkin spices, citrus-beautiful! Oh, and the Avocado Fest in Carp this week-end!

There's lobster traps soaking offshore, trucks carrying red and green bell peppers up the highway...and the pumpkin trucks are rolling...the Great Pumpkin!

It all sets me to thinking about a nice Halloween feast with a main course of lobster of course, smothered in clarified butter, avocados-sliced with peppers, some salt and pepper and olive oil...pitchers of lemonade and as an aperitif, some Japanese sake...

add some grilled garlic bread, sopping with butter and chopped garlic..

for dessert, we have pumpkin pie and blueberry pie and super tasty homemade vanilla ice cream on top...mmmmm

afterwards, as the sun is going down, and the warm Santana winds are drifting, we will partake in coffee, Cuban cigars, and the finest liquors- Brandy de Jerez, Calvados and Pisco...

we will let this beautiful season wash all over us!

Get Off of My Cloud

I said, "Hey, hey, you, you, get off of my cloud

Hey, hey, you, you, get off of my cloud

Hey, hey, you, you, get off of my cloud

Don't hang around 'cause two's a crowd

On my cloud baby"

Do you see Trump's face?
then you are a very sick person

hey whatever happened to Wendy McCuckoo, I wonder? I miss the News-Press but does the News-Press miss me?

EDHAT is looking weird sometimes with GIANT PICTURES and what not...a format makeover is in the works they say but I hope no more GIANT PICTURES!!

so summer is gone, the Summer of Barbie and now fall is upon us..I like these dark mornings, these quiet hours that bring me peace, if only for a little while

how can the Republicans get dumber each day with so many educational opportunities in America...it seems they're just not curious enough to learn and would  rather have Trump think for them!

so the next bogeyman for the MAGA morons is Bill Gates...Bill made everyone's life easier and more efficient with Microsoft and he also made a fortune.  He's been buying farmland and QAnon MAGA thinks he wants to control the food supply...hehehe..implausible

Someone ditched a Ducati motorcycle on the side of the road and the cops were checking it last week...this one looks like a 1970s Scrambler 800 series...equally capable on or off road...why would anyone abandon it unless it was stolen? it's a mystery...why not take it to the hills and hide it til the heat dies down? it doesn't look damaged...something ain't clicking

if I had a choice between a Triumph Bonneville or a Ducati Scrambler, I'd go with the Ducati

these are beautiful bikes!

Highway To Hell

I'm on a Highway to Hell!!

The cops are pulling people over left and right on the new highway 101..it's a speed trap number 1 and number 2 because the HOV lane demands two or more people in a car. It's like a police state now! However, if you drive a motorcycle, a Tesla (KABOOM!!) or some other stipulation, you can use the HOV anytime...the whole thing is too stupid because the Diamond Lane is a failed concept from the 1970s-they want less cars on the highway to save the air-but there's always rush hour and traffic jams in the morning.

There's still  only two lanes from Montecito to SB until they complete that project..it creates a bottleneck back-up in Carp and an HOV lane won't solve a thing...

and what about falcons? what about smog checks? If I pass, I should be able to use the exalted lanes, should I not? and those are my taxes in all those tons of cement there!!

I travel down life's highway alone sometimes, and it's discriminatory to keep me reaching my dreams..

The Heroes Remain

America..there's tears in our eyes

from that day in September, New York

when terror filled our skies..

through the darkness and light

through the tears and the pain..

through the hell of it all..the heroes remain

I remember the heroes of 9/11...the Americans who died brave and free, attacked by religious fanatics from Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates and Egypt. The militant cultists chanted "GOD IS GREAT!!"  WTF is that supposed to mean??? as they crashed jets into the Twin Towers in New York. They hated America, freedom and democracy. They were in America on visas or passports...

One of the hijacked jets, Flight 93, was most likely headed for the Capitol but the passengers fought the terrorists and it crashed to the ground...the crew, the passengers were heroes

the QAnon MAGA conspiracy theorists say 9/11 was an inside job by the American gov't, and the planes were full of feds... these whackos always pick the least plausible explanation for any situation that confuses them!!

The shameful Jan 6 debacle dishonored every American who died on 9/11 and those who fought, were injured or died for their country in WWII... Can you imagine a bunch of highly agitated country hillbillies, egged on by an orange-faced buffoon, trying to finish the job at the Capitol bldg for the Islamic terrorists??? Trump will never be POTUS again!

but whether it's foreign or domestic enemies, America always takes care of business...

and the heroes shall remain

If ever a wiz there was

If ever, oh ever a wiz there was...

The Wizard of Oz is one because

Because, because, because, because, because

Because of the wonderful things he does

We're off to see the Wizard

The wonderful Wizard of Oz!!!!

Fast Car

you got a fast car

When you build a bigger highway that looks more like a speedway, you can expect cars to go faster...the 101 section in Carp is a speed trap...the Highway Patrol are just sitting and waiting to pick off drivers, it seems for any minor offense...the cops will pull them over in traffic jams and that is more dangerous than speeding!

In Buellton, the CHP was pulling over cars who were traveling to the Monterey Car Show...I got to see a preview of the Lamborghinis and other exotic and cool cars...California was built for speedy cars and the movie Bullitt exemplified that...so let 'em roll...we are not a police state!!

Wendy and Nipper out for a spin??

so I'm preparing for Hurricane Hilary Clinton the best I can: canned goods, flashlights, transistor radio and guns..I'm so sorry for the folks in Hawaii dealing with fires..we can relate so give them FEMA help, all they need!!

whoa!I was looking forward to some tropical rain from Hurricane Hilary (Hilary??) but while I was waiting an earthquake hit...the balcony bucked and the plants swayed..this one had some kick..5.1... they say there's no such thing as " classic earthquake weather"...I take issue with that

I think it all boils down to is where one stands...between the tropic of Cancer or the tropic of Capricorn...

LADIES AND GENTLEMEN, PLEASE WELCOME THE LOVELY AND TALENTED AOC TO SING FOR US!!!

Even though the Republican Party is in a shambles, and the RNC is merely a punchline at a cocktail party, I still wanna see the debates... of course Trump chickened out...he knows he'll get hammered by the portly, fast-talking Jersey guy Chris Christie and even "Too Honest" Mike Pence will get a few licks in about Jan 6 and Trump's despicable behavior on that fateful day...

All Trump had to do was be an adult and concede he lost to Biden-the American people made that very clear- and this circus could have been avoided...none of this tomfoolery would have happened...

I think these people are thespians

The Good Life

Oh, the good life

Full of fun, seems to be the ideal

is KTYD headed for the same fate as the News-Press? Oblivion? they seem to be adrift at sea with no sails...and they play KISS alot!! that's not rocknroll baby! Hope they get it together...

it looks like Montecito is next in line for the highway project. I'd like to take this opportunity to tell you well-heeled folks what to expect...but before I do, why don't you take a few pictures of the old highway and take one last look around, for soon, it will be gone forever...I'm sorry.

What Will Happen:

Caltrans and various contractors will be invading your neighborhoods with fearsome heavy equipment...if you like falling asleep to the sound of crickets chirping or the ocean waves crashing, then you're gonna have some tough nights ahead

They need to break up the asphalt..the highway is asphalt over dirt...simple and sufficient...but the new highway will be tons of rebar, asphalt and cement over asphalt...CALTRANS has a cement factory by Padaro and Loon Park...have you seen it? do you like it?? Caltrans doesn't care but the bright spot is pretty girls working on the highway

do you like trees? POOF!! all gone!

the white concrete traffic barriers will be put in place by teams of workers and big forklifts...sometimes they will stack the barriers on the side of the road, higher than they can stack shit in Texas!

When the winds kick up, it'll look like the Dust Bowl in Montecito...and giant highway signs will be erected, some attached to the bridge..and then more signs, everywhere..you won't have time to drive, you'll  be too busy reading...

so, for a few years patience will be a virtue, but until then...

you can kiss the good life good-bye!

Make Your Own Kind of Music

sing your own special song

You heard it here first that I read it on Noozhawk that Wendy filed for... OMG.. BANKRUPTCY!! That means the morally bankrupt News-Press, once a fine paper, is GONE!!

"At its height, the newspaper founded in 1855, had a daily circulation of 45,000 and was published seven days a week, serving Santa Barbara, an upscale city of 90,000 people. Editorial writer Thomas M. Storke won a Pulitzer Prize in 1962 for a series of editorials about the John Birch Society.

McCaw, then a billionaire local philanthropist active on environmental and animal rights issues, bought the daily from The New York Times Co. in October 2000 and a few months later appointed herself and her fiancé, Arthur von Weisenberger, as acting co-publishers."

Little did we know that Wendy was a wannabe Bircher!! oh the irony!!

tabloid trash

Nipper and Wendy win the phony Distinguished Patriot Award
with Islamophobe David Horowitz as the keynote speaker...haha

Wendy simply couldn't read the room...endorsing  far-right lunatics like Orly Taitz, the Birther Queen and Trump the Traitor was just bad politics...

and guess what, Wendy??
TRUMP IS UNDER ARREST!!!!

Wendy was handed a fortune in a divorce settlement from Craig McCaw, the cell phone billionaire, but apparently she squandered Ampersand, her publishing company, into bankruptcy...and the News-Press wasn't viable as an online paper while the Ventura County Star and others are thriving.

and it's too bad boo hoo...I liked her initial take on the Channel Islands animal slaughter by the Nature Con and National Parks Service, but she changed her tune giving money to the Center for Biological Diversity..and then all the anti-union stuff was just plain stupid and of course Nipper was no help as the bon vivant eyeing Wendy's riches...

Wendy and Yolanda, sittin' in a tree
K-I-S-S-I-N-G

UPDATE: I've been thinking about this and well, if it doesn't gel, it isn't aspic, and this ain't gellin'!

It's about Wendy, Nipper and Yolanda...Yolanda has been with Wendy a long time and Wendy seems to be protecting her...I think, without evidence, that Wendy and Yolanda are an item, as in lesbos, and Nipper's been there only for the camera! and they never married and so forth...

Remember Wendy was a big fan of the gay Santa Barbara mayor, Harriet Whatshername. Just my conspiracy theory....

and what about the Dr Laura caper? the Rob Lowe incident? the Peter Lance Fiasco?

and the thousands of child porn images on a News-Press computer and Wendy (the NP owner) and Nipper's pathetic attempt to deflect blame away...the Buck never stopped with Wendy...until the bankruptcy, that is!

and Starshine? in the shadow of Starshine, everyone's going blind...

so yeah, it's just too bad all that ink was no match for all them gigabytes!!

but, all the girls are dressed up like Barbie and everyone's singing Mama Cass songs...

Already, the world is a better place!!
