but if you try sometimes, you might find you get what you need
now I've been hearing stories that Haley St in Santa Barbara used to be a place where hookers and trannies hung out among the Mexican grocery stores and fast lube joints...you could get what you need for as low as 20 bucks..in the car in the alley!! back in the 1970s and 1980s I guess...
is this true? I've been here awhile and I've been through many a bar...the Feed Store in SB, Rocky Galentis in the Californian Hotel, the Chanticleer and Olive Mill Bistro in Montecito, the disco joints...you could get laid easy although you had to work a little harder in Montecito to convince the girls...
at two o'clock in the morning if you found yourself on lower State St looking for a sandwich from a liquor store, you might get propositioned by a hooker but you needed to be careful because she could have been a he and back then there were some gay bars with all sorts of colorful characters coming and going..
but Haley I don't think was as bad as the legend allows....granted, it wasn't Rodeo Drive but that's not a bad thing..Haley has always been a working class area and I always felt kinda safe there...
today, the business people are trying to revitalize State St and come up with a marketing plan ..the City even hired a consultant!!
but they need to get back to the basics..not eveyone wants to go taste beer and wine and find out if this wine pairs well with this cheese..and not everyone needs to have their dog at their side 24/7....ie, stop catering to trendy zombies
remember, Santa Barbara is a beach community...can I walk up State St and find a friendly, simple place to have a good steak? or some fish and chips..
or are they gonna just line State St with cannabis shops, craft breweries and wine tasting rooms???
