imagine

all the people, living life in peace

well I went into Santa Barbara to check out the John Lennon exhibit on State St before we start bombing Syria..got there early..10:00 am and they open at 11:00 am...so I went down to the Funk Zone and sure enough the Anchor Kitchen is closed.. I went over to investigate the Lark..oh I get it..the old fish place..bought lots of fresh fish there....ok so there's the Lark and right next to it on the same lot are a bunch of beer and wine places and a guitar place....so you eat at Larks, go get drunk at Area 5.1 Winery then go play the blues at the Guitar Bar...what a nice evening of fun!!

ok enough of this....back to John's art exhibit... I'm walking up State St and oh I see what all the talk about homeless guys is about...lots of street folks in the 900 block of State St..didn't bother me a bit but, well, the rich white folks may get a little scared of seeing the results of years of alcohol abuse staring at them whilst they ponder their next martini in the Funk Zone!

oh good the exhibit opened a bit early...donations at the door go to the
Cottage Children's Hospital...so I give ten bucks....I get a good feeling walking in the place..it's very clean and the pictures are nice and organized....the host guy gives a little info...I ask can I take pictures..he's says not of the individual art but ok to shoot the gallery..ok that's fair...BTW, all the art work is for sale from $550 to $28000.... a little steep for me..I kept hoping Yoko would show up and give me a painting...imagine!

well the art was cool..I loved it...they played Beatles songs.. I grew up with them and have loved them ever since I first saw them on the Ed Sullivan Show..ever since the first album..and I loved John and Yoko and the whole peace thing...love love love..geez!

lyrics to "Day Tripper"

so this really was a fab trip down memory lane....of course John was an immensely talented guy with plenty of conflicting issues, but the thing that struck me the most was the framed hand-written lyrics of songs like Day Tripper, Imagine, In My Life, Nowhere Man...wow..that really connected me to the exhibit...this is high art and the man  really had a way with words...actually looking at his lyrics blew me away!!!

people moved in and out and seemed fascinated by the gallery..and pretty happy....

I felt pretty happy, too

Funky Pretty

pretty funky

Funk Zone in Trouble already??? overpriced, rude and snooty booze eateries not exactly taking off...they forgot to put the "fun" in funky!!

geez and what about all the hype? the Sentinel and Montecito Journal are the biggest cheerleaders of all the wine, beer and booze joints and new kitchens opening up in the old Funk Zone...boozehound publisher Jim Buckley calling it the biggest change he's seen since the Mission District in San Francisco...I don't even know what happened up there

and there's the Independent writing article after article on the booze flowing out of places in the Funk Zone...and there's stories about lines on people a block long waiting to eat and drink....waiting to sample food from all those Top Chefs??

well??

hype...too much hype and folks can burn out on a place before they even set foot in it! then there's the stories of the Lark being way over-priced and phony...the Lark?? who eats in a place called the Lark?? and the stories of all the wine tasters who go from tasting room to tasting room and marvel at the complexity and the personality of the fancy wine...silly!! pretentious...

it seems like all these chefs went to the Cordon Bleu College in LA and got a little certificate of cookery--sounds pretty cheesy to me

ok so the Anchor Woodfire Kithchen is the first to close up...I can't find any Bradley Ogden type controversy yet, but I did see what they serve...the menu is a little bonked out for my tastes...and way too expensive: Oven Roasted Caprese
Roasted Tomatoes, Lemon Basil, Burrata, Pink Peppercorns, Balsamic
Beer: Citra Session

obviously, I am not sophisticated enough to eat there ...besides Hamburger Habit is better so I think all these fad restaurants are catering to Wendy and Nipper clones, ie wealthy drug addicts!!

and the reviews were bad..loud music, drunk staff, rowdy cooks..well that's normal, just don't let the customers see it...

ok so the Funk Zone revival may be dead before the next cork is popped or the next Duck Tongue Crostini is served!!!

Duck Tongue Crostini ???

Venus

if you will, please send a little girl for me to thrill....

ok everytime I open the News-Press, I see stupidity..not from the folks who put the rag together, but from the likes of Lanny Ebenstein and Andy Caldwell, the two guests...always the guests...the guest opinion writers...

Annette promotes gay lifestyle??

Andy's blunders are many as he scolds the county for the "most costliest" blunder because they wouldn't agree to "gov't to gov't" talks with the Chumash ... "most costliest" is poor grammar and stuff he should have learned in grade school..

Annette in pre-twerk pose!
and speaking of grade schoolers, I used to watch the Mickey Mouse Club when I was 5 or 6 and as I've said, had a huge crush on Annette Funicello right up till she died of MS...after I did my Achy Breaky post on Miley Cyrus' MTV appearance, Andy writes his own Achy Breaky guest editorial in the News-Press claiming Miley is corrupting the youth of America with her " disgraceful pornographic" dance...and Andy frets that Annette Funicello would be turning over in her grave...nonsense!

Andy, like all faux-Christians, is over-reacting because he probably spends time jerking off to Miley posters in the News-Press bathroom...

and besides, Annette was my first big crush...and I'm sure ol' Walt had a few fantasies about her, too!! her big brown eyes and wavy hairdo..those big boobs..those luscious lips...I loved her!! and she invented twerking, as it were, as I'll show you....

now take these two films with Annette..the beach films....

look at the promo pictures of Annette...there's Annette with the smiling stuffed animal (the Christians nowadays would say she's promoting bestiality!) then there's the pic of Annette with her hand on the gay head of Tab Hunter, the gay actor from Summerland..perhaps Annette was one of the first proponents of gay marriage??

hmmmmm

Beach Party (1963) was a musical comedy made by American International Pictures (AIP), a low-budget, exploitative, and successful film company, founded in 1956. It was the first "beach" film (mostly to drive-in theatres) starring popular 24 year-old singer Frankie Avalon, now-buxom 21 year-old ex-Disney Mickey Mouse Club Mousketeer Annette Funicello (as Dolores or "DeeDee" in later films), Robert Cummings, and Dorothy Malone.

AIP realized the lucrative buying power of this new demographic group and advertised the fluffy film alluringly: "It's what happens when 10,000 kids meet on 5,000 beach blankets." However, wholesome star Annette Funicello - still under contract to Disney, was legally forced to not appear in a bikini, and to express repressive sexual attitudes, although she wore a non-revealing two-piece suit!

Pajama Party (1964) included more sexual innuendo. It starred Annette Funicello (as Connie) and poor substitute Tommy Kirk (her former Disney co-star), and Frankie Avalon only in a short, red-tinted cameo role as Socum. It was a low-budget teen film with lots of shimmying and shaking - about a teenage Martian named Go-Go (Kirk) who landed on Earth to study the lovemaking rituals of Earthlings and fell in love with Connie.

so you see, conservatives like Andy are so out of touch with reality and biology, they have all these perversions and hang ups from erroneous bible comprehension and enjoy taking these frustrations out on people like Miley Cyrus....Andy Caldwell's issues run from pornography, homosexual fantasies, extramarital sex heterosexually, lust, and being wanton in appearance, just to name a few..this is why he is preoccupied with adolescent sexual innocence ...and he tranfers his guilt feelings onto Miley!!!

but there's help...just click on the link Andy and you'll be free...

but Andy you dumbass, you still need a remedial English class....or a lobotomy

cracked

ϟ ϟ ϟ ϟ ϟ ϟ

geez, when the cops aren't busy padding their pensions or arresting innocent people for DUI , they are shooting them down in the street..well, this is all orchestrated by the police unions, obviously..

officer involved shooting results in man's death....

the theory that some folks came up with while sitting on their porcelain thrones all day, is the guy who was shot by a cop was actually a cheerleader practicing twirling a baton on De La Vina at 11:00 PM!! and at best, a taser should have done the trick to subdue him..or maybe some milk and cookies

and some crackerjack left a Jesus candle at the shooting site....I'm sorry the guy had to die but sorrier to see another freakin Jesus candle by the side of the road..where are we, Tijuana?? and take down your Christmas lights too!!! geez

oh and I love all the rightwingers like Noozhawk eagerly demanding public information to see all the files on the case even before the proper folks can go over them....all such requests will be denied until the investgation is completed so you media dogs don't jump to any conclusions, esp the anti-union-cop publications...the days of crackpots covering their own arrests in the News-Press are over, baby...sorry but those are my orders

now the guy who got killed was Brian Tacadena....the name sounds familiar...and that will come out in the investigation, too..so relax...now considering the number of officer involved shootings in SB, cops obviously act with restraint..if I could have a gun and monitor the neighborhoods on a volunteer basis, I'd be mowing down people left and right!! ESPECIALLY DRUNKS!!! BAM BAM BAM!!

I imagine cops need to react quicky to dicey situations...they are trained to use deadly force and sometimes they do...no time to wonder why, or if the perpetrator would rather have some freshed baked cookies given to him instead of bullets or tasers or handcuffs...and perhaps the cop could have read the dude with the knife a bedtime story!!

there are some cracked screwballs out there who can't follow simple societal rules...and if someone comes at me with a knife, I don't have a gun on me usually so I'd either have to run away or find a weapon...the only weapon I carry is a knife..a little hand knive like they used to give to the Boy Scouts before scoutmasters started molesting them...

now I suppose we could get rid of the police force then everyone would have to fend for themselves..I got no problem with that..but I can't watch everyone 24 hours a day..there has to be a deterrent so folks will think twice about drinking and driving...so we put the fear of a police car in their little heads!

...I can bet there'd be lots more dead bodies on the street and tons more court cases without the cops....or we could make murder legal and free the courts up big time!

as a society we have lots of options...but until things change, I am perfectly fine with having a police force do what is necessary to keep the peace....I got no problem with the union negotiating for wages or safety equipment, and I have no problem with deadly force being used when necessary...

but those Jesus candles.... I got a big problem with those!

tequila sunrise

"take another shot of courage"

oh yeah...Labor Day weekend was awesome..good weather and tons of people at the beach..the classic cars on the highways...some sharks even had a BBQ!

warning signs were posted

but the News-Press couldn't muster up any praise for the American worker which is not a surprise since Wendy never worked for a living...she got her money the old fashioned way: divorce settlement!! hahahaha!!

but there was the Tequila Festival at Elings Park..they have a Beer Festival over there too for the Rugby players..but unfortunately, no tennis players are allowed at the Tequila Fest...

first off, I never really liked tequila because it can really get you drunk quick...and it can rip you a new asshole if you're not careful...it's really really bad stuff..and bad for you...there is no good thing that can come from drinking tequila...the kids drinking this shit will have to figure that out for themselves...just look at an old alcoholic in a bar, drinking a margarita..not a pretty sight..

and what about these festivals that last only a few hours...festivals last days..Woodstock lasted three days man..three days!! and the SB Film Fest lasts a few weeks..but a few hours? why not just call it what it is....HAPPY HOUR!!

let's see, the good folks putting on this event had some tips..like what to wear...

SBTH 2013: Dress Code

The Santa Barbara Tequila Harvest Festival will be held outdoors in a large grass area on a beautiful summer afternoon.

Recommended Attire:
Ladies: A light top with slacks or a sundress with wedges, flats, or sandals instead of heels (we don’t want you sinking into the grass) and a fashionable summer hat.

SBTH 2013: Parking & Transportation

Transportation:
We highly encourage the use of a taxi cab as the means of transportation to get to and from the the Santa Barbara Tequila Harvest Festival. This way you avoid the hassle of dealing with limited parking and a $5 parking fee. There will be convenient Taxi drop-off and pick-up zone located right in front of the entrance gate. To sweeten the deal, we have partnered with Beachside Cab Company and they will be offering Special Rates to all who reserve and mention that there destination is the Santa Barbara Tequila Harvest Festival. Reserve your taxi cab by calling (805) 966-5600.

and yet another festival that suggests you won't be able to drive home because the events will render u too shit-faced to drive...

and the Tequila gals..well...judge for yourselves...kinda skanky looking
I'll take the Pepsi girls anyday!!

Highway 61

Oh, God said to Abraham, "Kill me a son"
Abe says, "Man you must be puttin' me on"

so I'm hanging out on Highway...uh...Highway 61...with the fifth daughter on the twelfth night who Told the first father that things weren't right'

My complexion she says is much too white
He said, "Come here and step into the light"
He says, "Hmm you're right..
Let me tell the second mother this has been done"

But the second mother was with the seventh son
And they were both out on Highway 61

hmmmmm

so I'm walking around looking for some particular but elusive vibe, it's hot and humid and totally awesome outside and all of a sudden, I see coming around the bend some way cool old cars, then more... then more..it was a caravan of classic hot rods and muscle cars heading up Highway 61 to Ojai...I took pictures and they waved, they peaced signed me, they smiled...tatoos, chicks!!

Well Mack the finger said to Louie the King "I got forty red white and blue shoe strings And a thousand telephones that don't ring Do you know where I can get rid of these things?" And Louie the King said, "Let me think for a minute son"

And he said, "Yes I think it can be easily done Just take everything down to Highway 61"

I can just imagine the labor of love these folks put into these cars...and to see that many on a secluded rural highway on a lazy Sunday morning...well where else can I step back in time whenever I want...every now and then the California fable comes to life and I was just in one scene...

so Labor Day is Monday...and I salute everyone who labored to build American icons like those cars..and those dams, those bridges, those motorcycles, those guitars....those roads...and girls, whoever made girls!

and that Highway from Carp to Ojai....carved into California like a vein...with some American blood running through it....that's what I'll celebrate on Labor Day!

Joe Hill

I dreamed I saw Joe Hill last night, / alive as you and me. / Says I "But Joe, you're ten years dead" / "I never died" said he, / "I never died" said he.

now that the plastic bag ban has been intact for awhile, do I miss them, the bags? no I don't...gone are the days when the grocery store would use 5 plastic bags for ten items I buy..now, everything goes right into a fabric bag..I got about ten of them and use different ones depending on my mood that day...some have cheery colors while some are plainer...

Was an overstuffed, defective Walmart shopping bag to blame for Lynette Freis' death? Considering the strange way she met her demise, it might as well have been.

The Nebraska woman was being rung up at the Wal-Mart Supercenter in Bellevue on April 16th, 2010, when the cashier decided to place the two 42-ounce La Choy cans she purchased as well as a two-pound bag of rice in a single plastic bag.

While walking back to her car, Lynette's bag failed, causing one of the La Choy cans to fall on her right foot, resulting in a deep cut and the fracturing of her big toe.

She soon developed an infection that neither antibiotics nor two surgical procedures were able to cure, and died

now, I have never shopped at Walmart and I never will...haven't even stepped inside one....Walmart is simply the cynical end-product of a consumer nation..buy buy buy without thinking of the consequences: waste...waste that ends up in landfills...even green waste ends up in landfills..they mix it with dirt and use it as ground cover to keep rodents out!! if you want to see the folly of consumerism, visit Tajiguas landfill where giant earthmoving machines bury our waste into the hill...over and over and over again..I hate to use the word, but this is simply not sustainable

the question is? why'd you sell me this, I don't even need it!

as we reflect on Labor Day, we have organized labor and unorganized labor..

On the other end of the employment spectrum, Walmart, a company that has been repeatedly called out for its low, low wages, has made an art out of fighting unions. America's largest private employer has closed stores that voted to unionize, packed various sections with anti-union workers, and -- in one especially stunning case -- decided to close the meat counters at 180 stores when its butchers voted to unionize. It routinely bars union organizers from Walmart property, forces employees to attend anti-union meetings, and threatens to replace employees who try to unionize.

Walmart is the worst corporate business in the world...the list of labor violations is long and longer than Wendy's even!!

But this time around, Walmart's labor issues go much further than gender discrimination. In addition to the Tennessee case, the company has been dealing with a very determined group of workers, hundreds of them, who have been striking outside of a Walmart warehouse in Elwood, Illinois since mid-September. The list of grievances runs from unsafe working conditions to widespread sexual harassment. "I told the supervisors about it, but they definitely don't listen. One supervisor I had tried to tell said, 'I didn't see that.' Just because you didn't see it, doesn't mean it didn't happen," former Elwood warehouse employee Samantha Rodriguez told The Nation. "When I went to another supervisor about the harassment, he asked me out on a date. I said no, and eventually I got fired."

Women who make pants in El Salvador earn 15 cents for each pair; Wal-Mart sells these pants for $16.95 in its U.S. stores. Also, contractors in El Salvador force workers to take pregnancy tests.

According to Brandeis University Professor Ellen I. Rosen, women in Central America who make clothes for Wal-Mart live in shacks lacking running water or plumbing while women in China live nine to twelve to a room in government-provided dormitories. Some of Wal-Mart's workers in the U.S. spend their nights in trucks of motel rooms without cooking facilities.

The Maine Department of Labor ordered Wal-Mart to pay the largest fine in state history for violating child labor laws. The Department of Labor discovered 1,436 child labor law infractions at twenty Wal-Mart chains.

Following a vote in favor of union representation by the butchers in Jacksonville, Texas, Wal-Mart announced that meat cutting would end at 180 stores.

well that's just a few issues with WALMART...and other private employers...they will keep abusing their power unless the people stop them....and when oh when are affordable quality items going to be Made in America again???

from San Diego up to Maine,
in every mine and mill,
Where working men defend their rights,
it's there you'll find Joe Hill,
it's there you'll find Joe Hill...
