Funky Pretty

pretty funky

Funk Zone in Trouble already??? overpriced, rude and snooty booze eateries not exactly taking off...they forgot to put the "fun" in funky!!

geez and what about all the hype? the Sentinel and Montecito Journal are the biggest cheerleaders of all the wine, beer and booze joints and new kitchens opening up in the old Funk Zone...boozehound publisher Jim Buckley calling it the biggest change he's seen since the Mission District in San Francisco...I don't even know what happened up there

and there's the Independent writing article after article on the booze flowing out of places in the Funk Zone...and there's stories about lines on people a block long waiting to eat and drink....waiting to sample food from all those Top Chefs??

well??

hype...too much hype and folks can burn out on a place before they even set foot in it! then there's the stories of the Lark being way over-priced and phony...the Lark?? who eats in a place called the Lark?? and the stories of all the wine tasters who go from tasting room to tasting room and marvel at the complexity and the personality of the fancy wine...silly!! pretentious...

it seems like all these chefs went to the Cordon Bleu College in LA and got a little certificate of cookery--sounds pretty cheesy to me

ok so the Anchor Woodfire Kithchen is the first to close up...I can't find any Bradley Ogden type controversy yet, but I did see what they serve...the menu is a little bonked out for my tastes...and way too expensive: Oven Roasted Caprese
Roasted Tomatoes, Lemon Basil, Burrata, Pink Peppercorns, Balsamic
Beer: Citra Session

obviously, I am not sophisticated enough to eat there ...besides Hamburger Habit is better so I think all these fad restaurants are catering to Wendy and Nipper clones, ie wealthy drug addicts!!

and the reviews were bad..loud music, drunk staff, rowdy cooks..well that's normal, just don't let the customers see it...

ok so the Funk Zone revival may be dead before the next cork is popped or the next Duck Tongue Crostini is served!!!

Duck Tongue Crostini ???
