Working Man Blues

It's a big job just gettin' by with nine kids and a wife / I been a workin' man dang near all my life

this watch is from 1898, around the time Americans began celebrating Labor Day

so it's Labor Day and today, I salute the working man and woman..took alot of years, blood sweat and tears that led to the day when I could sit down on a Saturday in relative peace and freedom and listen to some good music...men and women before me working so we could have a few days off a week to enjoy our lives...


but today is a day of wrath for conservatives becasue they don't repsect the working class...Wendy usually fires soneone from the News-Press but she's running out of workers...the only ones left are the suck-up sychophants waiting for a meal ticket....

this history of Labor Day isn't about right-to-work states where anti-union rightwingers think it's ok to work in a union shop but not pay dues....no, Labor Day is all about unions and workers...and those unions are around today...Carpenters, musicicans, pilots, cops, firefighters and a host of others have the right to join unions...a right the rightwing is working feverishly trying to take away..so when they call cops heroes, they are hypocrites because they hate unions and don't think cops should retire at 50...

President Grover Cleveland signed a law designating the first Monday in September circa 1894 as Labor Day nationwide. This is interesting because Cleveland was not a labor union supporter. In fact, he was trying to repair some political damage that he suffered earlier that year when he sent federal troops to put down a strike by the American Railway Union at the Pullman Co. in Chicago, IL. That action resulted in the deaths of 34 workers.

if the teabaggers were in charge of the country there would be no weekends, no family leave, no raises and piss-poor working conditions,,,but over the years workers banded together and fought for the right to pursue happiness without being harassed by some employer...

like Wendy, whose idea of work is getting a big divorce settlement and buying yachts and buying a newspaper and writing front page stories about dogs....that's not work..that's not capitalism...that's not cool..Wendy and Nipper are both parasites, spongers, sponges, drones, leeches, hangers-on, scroungers, bloodsuckers, cadgers

as are the folks on the front page attending a GOP BBQ....and there's old anti-public worker Dale Francisco trying to look relevant....

but the irony is Wendy and her ilk have succceeded in making the GOP irrelevant..

especially on Labor Day...the GOP is gettin' fried!
