the letter to the NP was allegedly written by a "retired police officer in the Santa Barbara area"....Ronald Rodriguez is the name attached....
now, I got my suspicions that the News-Press printed a made-up letter from a fictitious cop in order to support their DUI stance and to circumvent a gag order
I am certain that there is no such person as retired cop Ronald Rodriguez.. I think one of Nipper's writer friends thunk him up..maybe Eringer or Lance himself....maybe even Nipper! if Ronald Rodriguez is a real cop I'll send $100 to #69's Animal Rescue Team!
but the evidence is overwhelming he's not real.....the fake cop writer supports everything Lance has said and casts doubts on everything officer Kasi Beutel has said/done.....hmmmm, and he even pads the opinion with a segment about cops being racists, bigots, sexists, liars and so on..strange words from an ex-cop, who never said a thing about these issues while he was a cop in uniform???
and the reference about Miami's drug wars in the 1990s was the key..Lance wrote or co-wrote some episodes of Miami Vice..a series that ran from 1986 to the early 1990s and
I think Lance wrote the letter using the fake cop moniker Ron Rodriguez.....and at the end of the letter he minimizes DUI as "only a misdemeanor"...what cop worth his/her salt is going to minimize DUI??
so what does all this mumbo jumbo about Miami this have to do with Lance's DUI?? NOTHING!!
the News-Press has a history of unethical behavior, so it wouldn't surprise me in the least that this is a continuation of their anti-gov't hysteria..this opinion by "Ronald Rodriguez" is a perfect example...let'see if I can find this dude and let's see if I can find out why KEYT and the Daily Sound won't touch this story.....I think the reason the News-Press can't stand the cops is they can't be bought by Wendy....like Wendy's hero FOXNEWS owner Rupert Murdoch bought the London Police Chief...this story is getting dirtier by the minute...
to be continued....

Hi mick. I was thinking the same thing yesterday when i read that "op-ed". I worked with SBPD for many years, and know a few DAs. SB is a small enough town that even if we dont know someone personally a name will ring a bell. Not so with this name. Never heard of him. Im going to ask around today to see if anyone else has heard of this guy. Would the News-Press be so corrupt as to print a made up authors opinion??. Oh wait, duh, let me answer my own question. Of course they would. I'll let you know what I find out.
Keep up the good work
fantastic!! let's flush this phantom out!
Another possibility is that this Ronald Rodriguez really does exist, but the op-ed was penned by someone else with his approval.
nawww..that's not even remotely possible...
fantastic! You'll never find out this phantom cop. Fool.

"The author is a retired police officer in the Santa Barbara area."
Hmmm. Maybe meaning some guy who worked as a police officer in an unknown capacity in some God forsaken corner of Arkansas, and who retired in the Santa Barbara area, had a ghost writer named Lance Myboil work with him on a "write a letter to the editor" competition here in Mayberry?
After all, Wendy has become slightly clever from drinking so much of that pet donkey milk that she probably knows not to print: "The author is a retired Santa Barbara area police officer...."
This is great stuff. Mick, you're the only one holding that corrupt, poorly run rag accountable. Keep it up! The community thanks you! If I was a SBPD officer, I'd stake out Nippers for more champagne drunks!
Ron Rodriquez is retired from the University of California Police Department-Santa Barbara. He had been an FAA controler but was fired under Reagan. Ron worked at the campus and the Isla Vista Foot Patrol for many years.
I am confident that the Animal Rescue Team can use your $100 donation.
are you kidding?? I'm talking about a real cop, not a security guard at UCSB...and working for the FAA is irrelevant...#69 owes me $100
There is no shortage of poeple who have found out the hard way that the UCPD is as real as it gets. Moreover, many of them are some of the best trained cops in the state. Nonetheless, this is not the point or issue.
You guys thought Ron Rodriguez was made up by some unknown Newspress plant or was a fake name. This is not the case. He is real.
Not everything is a scam. What makes you think nothing is being done about the Lance story? Just becasue it is not in the paper, on televison or on some blog does not suggest that no one is investigating or that it is not having an impact. It is big time.
I suspect that the Daily Sound and/or the local television stations are not covering the story because they don't have any reporters. KEYT has been a mess for years and all of the local papers work with very limited staff. Most of the time they use what is sent them. If there was any money in media, this would be different.
You give way to much credit to people who have no time, interest, or motivation to care. Many of them do not have any talent either.
To quote the late great George Carlin, "It is all bullshit and it is bad for you."
Oh yeah! Thankfully someone got to speak their mind on this blog without being called an immature name. Yay! Hopefully I haven't spoken too soon..... Call me [Mick's next offensive word] but why did he put this blog out there if not to have people post their opinions ... whether or not they agree with his ?!?!?!??
