Lovely Rita

meter maid...

the story of the day is a long time CIVILIAN police administator in the parking citations division was busted by the City of Santa Barbara for embezzling parking ticket profits! I knew those parking meters were gold!! so my parking ticket which cost me $90 went into her pocket and probably to the HSN for some girly stuff....or I bet she went straight to the casino after work!!

apparently the Police Dept hires some non-sworn administrators to oversee things while real cops are out busting drunks like Peewee Lance! (thanks lovely Giana from Noozhawk for covering Peewee's trial..and it looks like the News-Press pulled Scott Steepleton off the story after I reported he was sitting and holding hands with Peewee in the court lobby!) and SB councilman Dale Francisco wants more civilians in the police dept!!

One of the Santa Barbara Police Department’s top civilian employees was arrested on suspicion of embezzling more than $100,000 in parking ticket revenue over several years, the department said Friday.
Karen Flores, supervisor of the department’s business office, was booked into Santa Barbara County Jail on charges of grand theft and held on $250,000 bail, according to a department spokesman. She was placed on unpaid administrative leave.
Investigators started examining the department’s business practices about seven months ago, when officials from the city’s finance department uncovered inconsistencies in records related to parking citation fees.

now the city had had trouble before with greedy employees..the city staff busted the city finance director who was funneling city funds to an Orange County derivitive scam...this was back on Harriet Miller's watch....malfeasance doesn't happen often, but it does happen and the workers are usually the ones who discover it, not investigative reporters!

but I can't figure why they have civilians in the police dept...most civilians are rotten to the core..just turn on the news and some civilian has killed someone, molested someone, stolen from someone, cut some kid up and put him in a refrigerator..and so on....and now Rita's reputation has been tarnished, filling in a ticket in her little white book...I tell ya, I don't trust you civilians one little bit!

Mick, I need your advice said...

The News-Press lets Peter Lance write story after story trying to convince us that he's not guilty of DUI and that there's corruption and coverup in the police department. But when the police arrest one of their own employees, the News-Press immediately announces that she's guilty with this headline: "Police employee admits embezzling funds." Other newspapers and news Web sites are using words like "suspected" and "accused" in their headlines. Not the News-Press. I'm so confused. Does this mean that sometimes we should believe what the police do and say, but other times we shouldn't? That some people are guilty even BEFORE they go to court? Should I let the News-Press decide for me?
