Ladies of the Canyon

And Estrella, dear companion
Colors up the sunshine hours
Pouring music down the canyon-

I love canyons..they are deep and myterious and curvy, like a beautiful woman...there's Topanga Canyon, Toro Canyon, Mission Canyon...

if someone came up to me and said Toro Canyon has too many windy roads that should be straightened out for safety, I'd tell that someone to go jump in a lake..I've spent many days walking up that canyon, biking, picking fennel from the side of the road..singing lazy songs beneath the sun, and driving in the rain

so I'm hearing about the Mission Canyon fiasco..the attempts by some newbies to channelize Mission Canyon for safety reasons...what is going on really...well I'll tell ya...the Museum of Natural History up in the canyon is a glorious old property...spent many nights there listening to lectures and the bullfrogs in the creek...a Santa Barbara treasure..and cool houses everywhere

then the museum hired some strange folks, event coordinators and some old Nazi named Karl Hutterer who wanted to develop the property....then they started having booze parties..wine festivals events, wine tastings and Tequila tastings....the problem with this low form of entertainment or fundraising is obvious...

then further on up the road is the Botanic Gardens, another SB treasure that has fallen into the wrong hands.. con artists from Texas and Arizona became board members and fucked the place up..and THEN they started having Beer Festivals or Beer Gardens up there...

so we got wine, beer, and tequila being imbibed by people driving cars through the long, winding yet beautiful canyon roads...

is it any wonder these same dunderheads want to channelize Mission Canyon...it's less of a struggle for a drunk to drive a straight road than one that's full of curves...when you're sober, driving Mission Canyon is a blast..but I think these drunks just want less interferences with their drinking and driving, so they have come up with this crazy channelization scheme...

Mission Canyon is a canyon, not a channel..it is absolutely stupid to hold all these booze functions up here...then we gotta deal with the drunks on curvy roads..

Mission Canyon doesn't need to be updated, improved, channelized, carmelized, sterilized, homogenized..the only reason these Nazi sympathysers want to straighten out the roads is to get to their booze parties faster...

but a warning: don't mess with California's historical resources and that includes Mission Canyon....or I'll have PODER pay you a visit
