ULALUME

the skies they were ashen and sober; the leaves they were crisped and sere-

it's not like Carpinteria is some pure little town where nothing ever happens to shock the public... you may think people hang out in greenhouses all day long and sing sunny songs and pick flowers...think again...

while Carp is a sleepy little beach town, murders have happened here...

and I saw the story of some meth dude sneaking into an old beach house, unoccupied and for sale, on Beach Club Road, off Padaro Lane....Beach Club Road has been in the news because of the tiff between Kevin Costner and his neighbor over hedges..Beach Club is allegedly a private road but I thought it was supposed to be a public beach access road....

and then I've reported on all the security cameras popping up on Padaro, a public road....with all the celebs here and all the construction, the folks are paranoid...well I don't appreciate the cameras or share their paranoia...bad karma follows you for a reason!!!

Padaro Lane: enter at your own risk!

now, on Cravens Lane years ago there was a fire..and there was a rumor about that fire..maybe a cow kicked over a lantern...no that dint happen..but there was an old man living in a cottage and that old man wouldn't sell to a developer who wanted to build some condos...well, a fire burned down the cottage and killed the old man and then the place was sold and condos rose like a Phoenix outta the ashes...the Villas I think they're called now...so that's the rumor...you buy a condo in the Villas, you got blood on your hands...

Padaro slough: how many
bodies buried here??
then I hears that a couple was brutally murdered on Padaro Lane in the 1970s....

and a guy barricaded himself in an old house on Santa Claus Lane during the transition and eviction of the Santa statue....

GARY DEVORE IS MISSING!!!
On June 27, 1997 Gary left actress Marsha Mason's home in Santa Fe, New Mexico to return to his home on Padaro Lane, Santa Barbara California. He left in the afternoon with the intention of driving straight through. He remained in contact with his wife Wendy Oates via cellular phone thoughout the trip. The cell phone records show 16 attempts to call home during the trip. The last recorded transmission, sometime after midnight the morning of June 28, Gary told his wife that he had come through Barstow and was feeling awake enough to drive the final three to four hours home. According to Air Touch cellular the location of thelast call was somewhere near Mojave California. He has not been heard from since.

'Ma' Duncan
By Catriona Lavery - Los Angeles Times

Elizabeth Ann Duncan hired two men to kill her pregnant daughter-in-law, jealous that the young mother-to-be threatened her incestuous relationship with her son Frank, 30. Duncan is one of four women executed in California's gas chamber.

Olga Kupczyk Duncan disappeared in November 1958. She was seven months' pregnant, 30 years old and newspapermen didn't hesitate to call her attractive.

Elizabeth Duncan first drew suspicion when police discovered she had illegally obtained an annulment for her son and his wife. Elizabeth Duncan and Ralph Winterstein, 25, hired by Duncan, secured the separation by posing as the young couple in court.

Beach Club Road aka Murder Alley

Nearly a month after the woman's disappearance, investigators found her body in the Casitas Pass of Carpinteria, Calif., after Augustine Baldonado, 25, confessed that he and Luis Moya, 22, had been offered $6,000 by the victim's mother-in-law. The two men beat the young woman with a pistol, strangled her and buried her body in a shallow grave. Coroners investigations found that she was still alive when buried.

Elizabeth Duncan's bizarre past and penchant for dramatics made the trial a sensation.

And I cried—"It was surely October
On this very night of last year
That I journeyed—I journeyed down here—
That I brought a dread burden down here—
On this night of all nights in the year,
Oh, what demon has tempted me here?
