eat a peach...

or an avocado

after living on a few avocado ranches, I decided that Carpinteria was one of the coolest places in the world...it's rural but not in a hillbilly way....it's close to the big city sophisticates if the need arises...it's got plenty of wildlife and great beaches...and it's not too crowded

this Friday starts the Avocado Festival....it's been going on for years and highlights the good times ..do you know why I love avocados? because I can get some free ones as they fall off the trees onto the road, because they don't drink and drive and because the flowers impart an fruity fragrance to the air when the autumn winds blow...

I went down a few minutes before the tented revival opened and got some avocados..and noticed the extra security guards...no dogs and no smoking are two rules you'll need to follow or these big boys will arrest you...but the tri-tip smoke is wonderful

Pacific Grove is another cool small town and they have the Butterfly Festival, which celebrates the Monarchs....remember, the monarch butterflies prefer eucalyptus trees and there's a group of people trying to remove the euc from California..they need to be stopped at all costs..what next, will they target avocado trees?
that would be funny....we need to value all of nature and stop restoring the crap out everything...
now, I like the festivals...except the stupid ones like the Beer and Wine Festivals....any social outing that requires you have someone drive you home because you get too wasted is not a good festival..but alcohol is the drug of c
hoice for most Americans and since prohibition doesn't work, we'll just have to deal with them boozehounds...Pacific Grove at one point in its history banned alcohol..it was a very religious town...and if you've ever stood at "Lovers Point" and gazed out on the awesome ocean, it was originally called "Lovers of Jesus Point"....

so let the party begin and check out a good old American festival in a good old American town before they disappear forever....
