the Grand Illusion

County Civil Grand Jury Goes Soft on Drunk Drivers...

Peter Lance has already admitted in front of the camera's camera on Mr. Wimpy's show that he blew a 0.09...so what 's the problem?? he's guilty!! case closed...

ok, so now I'm pissed...the Civil Grand Jury has recommended that Santa Barbara police install video cameras in their cars because Peter Lance got busted for DUI and because the Grand Jury is made up of mostly white males in their golden years who don't trust government and who like martinis...and some of them have had ties to Wendy and Nipper... I believe it was Team Wendy who asked the Grand Jury to investigate and the Jury Grand complied without doing much research..theirs is an emotional knee jerk reaction...

the Grand Jury also wants the City of Guadalupe to install cameras in cop cars.. GUADALUPE??????!!!!!

the population of Guadalupe is about 6500 people!!

Some of the town businesses include The Far Western Tavern, a well-known regional steak house, the Masatani Mansion hardware store, La Chiquita bread store, and a dollar store. There is also a public library on Main Street, with a dentist and a panaderia nearby. The dollar store is a popular place in town. There are two gas stations in the town.

TWO GAS STATIONS!! holy fuck, tiny La Conchita has more gas stations!! maybe the Grand Jury thinks the cops in La Conchita needs cameras too to protect us!! what a bunch of dimwits...talk about a nanny..that's all the civil grand jury is..a babysitter to a bunch of crybabies..it should be obvious that the city of Guadalupe doesn't need cameras in the cop cars!!

so now I'll be investigating the Grand Jury..that's right, these suckers are now on my radar....more on this later but I wanna know how many have DUIs, how many know Wendy or Lance and other questions of a similar nature...I know the last foreman was Nipper's friend...Kathrynn McKee is her name...

well, the civil grand jury fortunately has no enforcement powers..if they did public employees would have mandated rectal examinations video taped so all the old pervs on the JG could amuse themselves...really, this group of busybodies needs to go away...why make it harder for the cops to do their jobs? if cameras are installed at $10000 per cop car...the city will need at least $500000 for contingencies...the JG suggests cameras will reduce litigation but they offer no proof...as a matter of fact they offer no proof of anything... besides..litigation is the lifeblood of Santa Barbara..who are they trying to fool?? why do they think DUI lawyers exist..to make money!!!

it is not practical to video tape everything that public workers do just because you don't trust them...what I would suggest is that each member of the Grand Jury do a ride along with a Santa Barbara DUI cop...witness an arrest or two, and then come to an informed decision....get off your lazy asses and do some field work and research instead of asking the city spend large sums of money on feel good ideas....

if cameras stop DUIs, I want to see some data....and I want to know what the News-Press influence was over this Grand Jury....was there a quid pro quo?? like a case of wine or something??

however, I realize that hysteria overcomes rational thought, especially when drunks are involved, so let me offer some tips and help to the Grand Jury....first they could save money by using micro-cams or video eyewear...the video eyewear costs about $119/pair and you could give a pair to 50 cops at about a cost of $6000...a micro cam cost about $199 and still you'd save money....compare that to the Grand Jury's bloated $500000 figure and you'll see who is really looking out for the taxpayer..ME.... not the Grand Jury chairman Ted Sten!

the best way for the litigation to stop is for people to think before they drink and drive...get some education on the affects of alcohol on motor skills, and then call a cab..

and from now on, cameras should be allowed in the courtroom....video and still cameras...and the next time I visit courtroom #2, I'll be wearing my video sunglasses, but please don't tell the Judge...

I love it Mick! The NP as usual is misinformed (shocking?). Many many Law Enforcement agencies don't have cameras in their cars (check out Ventura) and the ones that do usually don't have them in all of their cars. I believe the NP quoted Drew Sugars of the SBSO saying they have cameras in 55 of their cars. Do you know how many cars they have? I don't, but we can assume it's a lot more than 55. I think the SBSO has about 400 deputies.... The SBPD has about 140 officers and has 35 cars that they share....do the math. I'm told that even when the SBPD had cameras they were only in about 10-12 of the cars. You raise some really interesting questions about the Grand Jury and their motives. Their ties to the NP and why they even chimed in on this subject at all are questions that need to be answered. Keep telling the truth Mick.

Hmmm. I see it differently. If there were cameras in all the cars when Lance got busted, then maybe we wouldn't have to go through his dog and pony show. The cameras would have recorded him being a PITA and recorded the cops doing everything right to get him busted for DUI. It would have saved us all from having to deal with him prancing around like a wounded diva.

I don't see this as protecting criminals but protecting cops instead. It would make their busts so much easier to convict in court. Have you ever seen a drunken yahoo yell at a cop after being pulled over? It's not a pretty sight.
